Wake up-pressing snooze for the last time at 6:30 before I run late for work again. I have to leave by 7 so I don't hit any traffic and can arrive on time for work in Kendall. By some miracle, I'm out and fabulously dressed before 7 and already jamming to last week's Glee soundtrack in traffic. I'm not sure if its me having my own concert hall in the car or just traffic being good, but I lliterally felt like I flew to work today.
Finally get in, park and can walk in calmly instead of my usual rush and bumbling around with all my things. Looks like I maybe able to actually calmy BS with my co-workers. Success! I had a full BS session of 15 minutes before the boss lady came in! (Hope she doesn't get that on camera).
Before I continue to be rude, I am currently a Teacher's Aide at a special education school. I will remain speaking in the first person and won't mention the school name to keep the privacy of all parties mentioned (because all the cool kids do. keep guessing on y'all).
It's a small setting with about 70+ kids. They all are truly a joy to be with (granted, a FEW have their days that I wish I was a nun in the 70s armed with a ruler). Though I was hired an aide, I have, at the moment, been chosen to run the Reading/Language Arts department for the middle and high school group which is both exciting yet nauseating.
Anyways, after the short background, my day today......right.
So I came in, BSed with the teachers and went away to start my day as bosslady came in. I walked into the classroom and like clockwork, began to play with the Smartboard. Now, granted, yes, I am part of the newer generation who is familiar with IPads, Facebook, (Twitter...not so much) and not phased nor confused by it, but that damn Smartboard is like Calculus for me to work with. Again, not so much the technology part, but the part where it freezes on ocassion? yea, sends this young lady here on anger rage straight to Hell. So, yea, have my daily battle with it, successful against the Smartboard dragon. By the time I finish slaying it, the children come in...
The children. A beautiful bunch, really. The program is set to be in a Mastery Learning environment. For all my reader's who are not up to date on their school-boutique-lingo, this means that the student recieves one-on-one teaching based on his/her level. Sounds mad, but like most things, practiced correctly, are very simple and easy if taken on slowly and cautiously. I have been working with this group and by the grace of God, (thank Him)I have been able to survive and function with the group.
